I am so glad the Brits aren’t taking themselves too seriously, as the 2012 Summer Olympics open in London tonight. Of course, there’s a certain degree of pomp and unfortunate circumstance that comes with any Olympic Ceremony, but I definitely appreciated the Chariots of Fire skit with Rowan Atkinson.

The element of surprise is what really makes this work, so forget that I’ve telegraphed the humorous nature of this piece and imagine yourself watching live. The Queen has just arrived, the cameras pan to the conductor, the full orchestra playing and the unmistakable sound of the Chariots Of Fire theme begins to resonate throughout the arena.
