karsonheadshot WIC Nutrition Buzz: Sunscreen Tips

Here’s Karson from Karson and Kennedy in the morning to share his story about the WIC Nutrition Program:

It’s mid-summer and you still need to remember to apply sunscreen.  Lana makes sure we have several different types. Exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun accounts for 90% of the symptoms of premature skin aging.

The most important skin-care product available to prevent wrinkles and skin cancer is sunscreen. Opt for a sunscreen that provides both UV-A and UV-B production – these sunscreens contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.

Also, make sure to look for products for your kids. Many companies offer different variations that are safe for a child sensitive skin. Still aim to reapply your sunscreen about every 60 minutes. I bet you didn’t know that eating certain foods will give you natural protection from the sun!

During these late summer months, try to incorporate a few more avocados into your diet.  Sesame oil, coconut oil, and peanut oil are a few examples that also work!

This WIC Nutrition Buzz is sponsored by the Department of Public Health’s WIC program, a nutrition and health   program for women and families with kids under 5.  Call 1-800-WIC-1007 for more information.
