We’re counting down all the MixFests dating back to its inception in 1993, so strap on your seat belts and enjoy this blast from the past as we relive MixFest 1996!
MixFest ’96 was held for the final time ever on the Boston Common. After MixFest 1996, Mayor Menino asked the station to bring the annual fall tradition to City Hall, close enough where he could hear the show from his office!
The two-day event took place on Columbus Day Weekend, Saturday, October 12 – Sunday, October 13. Like all the ones before it and most of the ones after it, MixFest 1996 was a free show. However, the station requested donations to benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk County, a nonprofit group that helps protect abused children.
Some notable artists who performed at MixFest ’96 were Stevie Nicks, the Spin Doctors, Tony Bennett, Gin Blossoms, Jewel and Better Than Ezra. In addition to the national acts, a host of local artists also took part in the two-day party, including Joel Cage, Fat City, Eye to Eye and Division St.
