July 27 is Bagpipe Appreciation Day.

We’re not sure who decided to make a day to celebrate one of the most annoying instruments ever invented, or why they would do that, but here it is.

I suppose it might make sense in Scotland, but here in America, the bagpipe is a pretty overlooked instrument. And this is National Bagpipe Appreciation Day…which means it isn’t even celebrated in Scotland. Then again, every day is Bagpipe Appreciation Day over there.

Even more surprising is that bagpipe covers of pop songs are not that rare. Just go to YouTube and look up “bagpipe covers” and you’ll find full playlists of them.

Well, it’s a Sunday, so we’ll take a moment of our weekend to honor the bagpipers who have moved a step beyond “Amazing Grace.”

Here are 5 bagpipe covers you never thought you would see:

Red Hot Chili Pipers covering Avicii’s “Wake Me Up”

Stuart Cumming covering John Legend’s “All of Me”

Bags of Rock covering Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”

Marine Sandpiper covering Pharrell’s “Happy”

Kalabalik covering Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball”

This one is played on all kinds of weird instruments, but the bagpipe comes in at 0:53.

So, there you have it. Not much more we can say about that.

What’s the weirdest instrument you’ve ever seen cover a pop song? Tell us in the comments below!
