By now you probably have heard that Rob will be joined by Third Eye Blind, Andy Grammer, Vance Joy, and Rachel Platten on the MixFest stage at the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell in Boston on September 19th.
Rob was joined in-studio by his 17-year-old son, Mason who lives in Newton, MA and had just finished up a program at Berklee College of Music.
Rob tells us his son is an amazing guitar player, though Rob himself still has the market cornered on singing.
“Yeah, he got up with me a couple of weeks ago, when I did the Boston show [at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion,]” Rob said.
Maybe they will do the same thing at MixFest. Karson & Kennedy extended the invite for Mason and his band, What About The Lights, to play a song before his dad’s set at MixFest in September.
Where does the name What About The Lights come from? Mason doesn’t know. It just happened.
“Listen, if we had thought about it the day Matchbox Twenty rolled out of our tongues,” said Rob. “Like if we had really thought about it. That you’re going to be Matchbox Twenty forever.”
It appears to be settled, Rob Thomas’ son’s band, What About The Lights may make an appearance on stage too.
