Rachel Platten is the only artist at MixFest that can safely say she stayed at her mom’s house ahead of the show on Friday night.

She sat down backstage with Erin O’Malley at MixFest to talk about coming home again.

“It was pretty awesome, my dog was there,” Platten laughed. “I slept in my childhood bed, it was amazing!”

When Rachel wrote and recorded her smash hit Fight Song, she had no idea how far it would take her – from breakout artist to the MixFest stage right in her hometown of Boston.

“I was wrestling with so much self-doubt, you have to understand I’ve been doing this for so long and I’ve been rejected so many times,” she said. “I thought I had the key and it was going to be my big break, and then things weren’t working out. ”

It’s apparent that things have worked out quite well for Rachel. Between performing on stage and performing charity work, she is the example of karma coming back to you ten-fold.

Her new album will be out by the end of the year.
