As I said on the air tonight, I’ve got mad respect for Madonna‘s talent but last night’s BBMAs performance was just awful. Sorry, I’m not gonna sugar coat it and say something nondescript like, “it fell flat.”
We can’t let that be the final Prince tribute, so I’ve searched the Internet to bring you 13 Prince Tributes That Were Better Than Madonna. Here they are, in no particular order…
#1.) Maroon 5‘s Adam Levine and Pat Monahan from Train team up for an unbelievable rendition of Purple Rain:
#2.) Kelly Clarkson singing Purple Rain? Yes, please!
#3.) Dixie Chicks get real with this one. An amazing rendition of Nothing Compares 2 U:
#4.) 15 Seconds of Fame alum Tori Kelly with a moving version of When Doves Cry…
#5.) Jennifer Hudson and the cast of The Color Purple paid tribute from the Broadway stage with an acapella version of Purple Rain.
#6.) I really love this duet from 15 Seconds alums Aaron Krause and Liza Anne, it’s a beautiful version of I Would Die 4 U.
7.) With a performance we played on the air on #15Seconds, The Berklee Singers feat. Jourdy Wongtrakun took a swing at Purple Rain and hit it out of the park.
#8.) Beck took on Raspberry Beret at the Beale Street Festival in Memphis earlier this month.
#9.) Santana was a musical mentor to Prince. This tribute is a truly heartfelt version of Prince‘s The Last September. (Try to ignore the lady making comments at the beginning–they stop.)
#10.) America’s Got Talent finalists and 15 Seconds alums who got together at Boston University, Sons Of Serendip put their awesome spin on Purple Rain.
#11.) Tonight’s 15 Seconds of Fame artist (see the background story HERE) Samantha Harvey with a bedroom version of Purple Rain.
#12.) Muse did a phenomenal job on this cover of Sign O’ The Times.
#13.) 1,000 High School students singing Purple Rain at the L.A. Master Chorale’s 27th Annual High School Choir Festival. Glorious.
BONUS: One final tribute, it was a really cool moment when Pink Floyd‘s David Gilmour moved from Comfortably Numb into a rousing and fitting reprise of Purple Rain…
