Who doesn’t remember “Stay (I Missed You)” by Lisa Loeb? That music video forever made me jealous of my friends who had glasses. Yes, I realize now that poor vision was a terrible thing to want, and that my friends who had glasses probably would have given anything to have my eyesight.
Dem glasses, though.

Watch the music video above to see her rocking out in those iconic tortoiseshell cat-eye glasses, and tell me that you didn’t want them too.
While you probably still know every lyric to Lisa’s heartbreaking song, you may not know the story behind it.
Here are some fun throwback tidbits you may not have known about Lisa Loeb’s 1994 #1 hit, “Stay”!
1. Lisa Loeb was the first unsigned artist to have a #1 single in the U.S.
2/23/99 Los Angeles, CA Courtney Love (Best Rock Guitarist), Lisa Loeb (Best Acoustic Guitarist), Deana Carter (Best Country Guitarist), Leni Stern (Best Jazz Guitarist), Melissa Auf der Maur (Hole) (Best Bassist Female), and Steve Wariner (Best Country Guitarist) at the 1999 Orville H. Gibson Awards at the Hard Rock Cafe.
More than a year after Lisa’s song “Stay” hit #1 on the U.S. Hot 100 Billboard chart, her debut album Tails was released on Geffen Records. It took 19 years for another unsigned artist to hit #1 in the U.S. Can you guess what the song was?

2. Ethan Hawke made Lisa famous.

While Lisa wrote the song, she can thank Ethan Hawke for making it a hit. At the time, Ethan lived across the street from Lisa in an apartment in New York City. After the songstress gave the actor a copy of her song, he handed it to Ben Stiller who was directing the film Reality Bites, and Ben decided to use it in for the end credits.
3. Ethan also filmed the one-take music video.
Nope, Lisa wasn’t the only person frolicking about her empty NYC apartment (yes, that was her actual apartment). Ethan was behind the camera orchestrating her every move.
Did anyone else think of Lisa’s music video when Taylor Swift released her one-take video for “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”?
4. New Found Glory covered the song with Lisa Loeb in 2007.
Just had to put this here because I’m personally obsessed with it.
5. You can buy her glasses!

No, really. In 2010 she launched the Lisa Loeb Eyewear Collection and you can purchase her glasses here. Fun fact: Each type of frame is named after one of her songs.
