How to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day at Home

March 17, 2020

St. Patrick's Day is loved by many, but unfortunately due to Covid-19 a lot of parades and gatherings are canceled to keep everyone safe.

Here's some fun things to do at home for St. Patrick's Day.

1. Make a leprechaun trap with your kids.

According to Irish folklore, if you catch a leprechaun on St. Patrick's Eve, you'll become rich and have an endless supply of money for the rest of your life. Engage your kids with this fun and crafty tradition.

2. Drink green beer — just add food coloring!

Use food coloring to create green treats for the kids and green beer for the adults! If you didn't manage to get your hands on some green food dye, see what you have in the fridge. Things like guacamole deviled eggs, spinach cups and more can be a great way to get the family in the spirit.

3. Make a Guinness Float, because you deserve it!

All you need is a Guinness, a scoop of rum ice cream (you can get away with regular ice cream), and a thick drizzle of chocolate syrup.

4. Get your cornbeef and cabbage on.

While the green treats are a must, cooking more traditional meals is a great way to immerse yourself in the culture around the holiday. Get in the kitchen, roll your sleeves up and get a taste of Ireland with these authentic recipes.

5. Throw on your loudest shoes and pretend you can Irish step dance. Go for those high kicks!

You don't have to go outside to get active! Throw on your hard shoes and take a crack at Irish step dancing. The opportunity to jump around will be a great way to get your limbs loose while you're cooped, and to prevent the kids from getting restless.

6. Listen to Dropkick Murphys!

It takes a lot to stop Dropkick Murphys from playing on St. Patrick’s Day weekend. As people around the world are being asked to self-quarantine and not to gather in large crowds, Dropkick Murphys are ready to bring the show to you.

The band will be streaming up from Boston this time around, offering a live webcast on Tuesday March 17 at 7PM ET / 4PM PT.
