August 26, 2019

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Fans can rejoice as a trailer for the new "Star Wars" film, "The Rise of Skywalker," was released.

The J.J. Abrams-directed film, which will hit theaters on December 20, is starring Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, and John Boyega, as well as vets from the original series, including Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, and Billy Dee Williams.

The teaser was aired at Disney’s D23 Expo. The video featured a fair amount of footage from prior "Star Wars" movies, setting the scene for the new film, which will feature the franchise's signature light speed spaceships, otherworldly desert settings, and epic lightsaber battles.

The shocking moment at the end of the trailer reveals a cloaked figure wielding a red double-edged lightsaber. We catch a glimpse of the person who's under the hood -- Rey, seemingly switched over to the Dark Side.

"Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" will conclude the current Star Wars trilogy. It was preceded by 2015's "The Force Awakens" and 2017's "The Last Jedi."

"The Rise of Skywalker" hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
