The Black Eyed Peas Give Super Bowl Halftime Advice to Jennifer Lopez and Shakira

The Black Eyed Peas know better than anyone that the Super Bowl Halftime Show in the biggest stage in the world. The group performed for the 2011 edition, inviting Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash and Usher along for the futuristic spectacle.
Now 9 years later, in the actual future, will.i.am, Taboo, and, apl.de.ap can sit back and offer up a few words of wisdom to this year’s performers Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.

During a visit to RADIO.COM’s 97.1 AMP Radio, the trio looked back on the performance and served up some advice to the performers.

“Enjoy the moment. Don’t get in the mundane routine. Don’t do that,” cautions will.i.am. “This is a magnetic, magnificent moment. Latinos are proud.”

“It is a time where in America, there’s issue with the border. But the music is the most vibrant music in the world, and two Latino Queens are headlining the Super Bowl. That’s like so powerful,” he adds. “I’m African-American raised in an all Mexican neighborhood, and I’m like ‘Latinos!’ And I’m not even Latino I’m just raised around that community my whole life. So I know what that means. This is a powerful moment.”

J.Lo and Shakira are set to make history on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, not only as the first duo to co-headline the event but also as the first Latin headliners. “They’re gonna do an amazing job,” will continues. “J.Lo, she doesn’t need advice. We grew up watching her as a Fly Girl on ‘In Living Color.’ You think we had a long career? Yeah.”

The performance is also a moment to bring people together, with Lopez admitting that it’s an important moment for the community. The “Where Is The Love?” singers agree. “This is the moment to represent everybody and change the narrative of the negativity that’s going on right now,” apl.de.ap shares.

It all goes down on Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers, and J.Lo and Shakira take on the world.
