Taylor Swift Dropped 'Lover' Track 5 Called "The Archer"

July 23, 2019

The Easter eggs finally make sense!

Taylor Swift just dropped a new song called "The Archer," which is the fifth track from her upcoming album Lover due out in a month. Track #5 has always been an emotional song -- "All To Well," "All You Had To Do Was Stay," "Delicate," etc. -- and that's why Taylor wanted to deliver this song to us before the album drops.

During her Instagram live video she opened up behind the inspiration of the song, and did note that "The Archer" is not the next official single...just a gift! This track really opens up a new side to the 18-track project following "ME!" and "You Need To Calm Down." In the music video for "You Need To Calm Down," her friend Haley Kiyoko, who performed on the reputation Stadium Tour at Gillette Stadium, is seen shooting an arrow at a target, and hitting the bulls-eye which is a number 5.

This Jack Antonoff produced track sounds quite whimsical, and definitely follows in the footsteps of its predecessors while delivering us something brand new. The song finds Swift opening up in the chorus singing "I've been the archer, I've been the prey, who could ever leave me darling, but who could stay?" in the chorus.
